Canadian winter fun: Build your own ice bowling alley

Winter is more than just ice hockey and skiing. There are many ways to escape the winter blues, and you don’t have to be sporty to organize an ice bowling tournament. All you need is a bit of initiative and creativity. So what are you waiting for? Dress up warmly, get outside and have fun.

What you need

• 10 wooden pins, approx. 30 cms / 1 foot in length (e.g. cut up fence poles)
• 4 Bocce balls
• A snow covered frozen body of water e.g. frozen lake or pond (make sure it's safe). Alternatively, a snow covered parking lot will do
• A shovel to clear the snow
• A couple of good friends and a few drinks

With a shovel clear a space of approx. 8 x 1.5 metres / 25 ft x 5 ft

Build a wall of snow at the end of the bowling alley to prevent the balls from rolling too far. Arrange 10 pins in rows of 4, 3, 2 and 1.

With 4 bocce balls try to hit as many pins as possible. (Basically, you can make your own rules, the essence is that you have fun)

After each round, put all pins back up again (keeps you fit & warm)

Make sure you don't get thirsty. ... and the best thing, in Winter your drinks will stay nice and cold.
