Weight loss, a billion dollar industry
Losing weight is undoubtedly one of the most googled topics on the internet. People pop wonder pills, undergo liposuction, sign up for gym memberships that are never used, vomit their guts out and will try anything that sounds remotely promising and requires next to no effort. We are homo sapiens, people expecting instant results at a small price. But let’s face it, most yoyo diets don’t work and worst of all, some are even harmful. Instead of tackling our obesity epidemic by the root cause, we are just looking for a quick fix.
In the meantime losing weight is easier than you think. One of the best ways to eliminate extra calories is to read the labels and choose your daily food accordingly. Now you will probably tell me that you don’t have the time to read every single food label as you are not a professional shopper. Good point, but some clever people have actually done most of the work for you, you just have to follow their advice.
Not all food brands are equal
Misleading food marketing decoded
“Eat this not that” is a revolutionary range of books that analyze and compare the most common North American foods according to nutritional value and harmful ingredients. At one glance you can check which groceries found in our supermarkets actually add to your bulk and where the healthier choices are. The amazing fact is, that there are products that contain double the harmful fat, sugar or sodium than their competing brands. We don’t know this as we are totally manipulated by the clever and misleading food marketing efforts of the big corporations. Let’s face it, just because we are brainwashed on TV we immediately believe that this product is good for us. You will come to realize that the term “reduced fat” simply means that a product has less fat than its predecessor, but it might still have double the fat compared to other brands. Especially the condiments which we all love are major culprits when it comes to unhealthy high-fructose corn syrup and sodium. Some of them actually contain more than your recommended daily intake. When it comes to restaurant food, “Eat this not that” has found some major culprits that serve you death on a plate. You will be amazed that certain restaurants actually offer meals that contain more than your allowed daily caloric intake. You will be shocked that the milkshake that you recently bought for your kid exceeds 1500 calories? To my surprise the common fast-food chains are not the worst, some of your favourite sit-down restaurants might actually make you die of a heart attack. The books also explain which food additives and preservatives are harmful and which meat cuts are leaner than others. In addition you will also find yummie recipes that help you cook healthier.
To put it in a nutshell, “Eat this not that” can save you lots of calories, which will undoubtedly result in long-term weight loss and a healthier lifestyle. It is the bible of all weight-control solutions and should be integrated in the school curriculum, teaching kids how to make healthier food choices for the future so that obesity will soon be a thing of the past. Most chronic diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease are directly linked to obesity and could be avoided with a healthier diet.
Of course a little bit of exercise here and there would make an even a bigger impact.

I have a copy of Eat This Not That and love it. It is great for making better choices when out. For example, if you hit McDonald's who would have known the Big N' Tasty is actually healthier for you than the Chicken Select strips?! Or that Panera's Half Sierra Turkey with Half Greek Salad is worse than half Asiago Roast Beef with Black Bean Soup! It is a great tool for those who do have to venture into the real world from time to time to eat. Finally, it has really helped with choosing better foods at home too, by providing the best types of Cheese, Pizzas, Meats, etc.
yes,I agree that we are manipulated and misleading food marketing efforts of the big corporations plus we are brainwashed on TV so we immediately believe that this product is good for us.
Its really a good information because I also have the same kind of feelings but the fact is different as
the term “reduced fat” simply means the product has less fat than its predecessor, but it might still have double the fat compared to other brands.
Really love this information, well written.
Voted up and Awesome.
Interesting insight.
